Nintendo is merging two best-selling series into compelling building title appealing to Animal Crossing builders and Pok'mon trainers alike. The concept is refreshing and sense of progression keeps players busy discovering all the secrets of the world and its current inhabitants.

Pokemon Pokopia effortlessly and unapologetically claimed spot as best "life sim" with cute characters - at least until next Animal Crossing arrives. At same time, Game Freak and Omega Force somehow managed to create genuinely unique project within ultra-conservative franchise and very crowded genre filled with mediocre games.

Pokopia succeeds in delivering an experience unlike the usual formula of the Pokémon series, focusing on building a new world from the ground up, gathering resources, and exploration in a distinctive way, while also presenting an intriguing story hidden beneath its surface. That, and in addition to the interaction with Pokémons in everyday life, is something the series has never seen before, making it one of the best Pokémon spin-offs and one of the most important titles on the Nintendo Switch 2 since its release.

Pokémon Pokopia is far more than Animal Crossing meets Minecraft with a Pokémon skin. It’s the most personal, heartfelt Pokémon experience the franchise has ever delivered, where all 300 Pokémon feel like living, breathing characters rather than stat blocks. The cozy presentation, expressive animations, serene soundtrack and robust narrative work in perfect harmony with genuinely deep gameplay systems. A minor inventory gripe and some frustrating multiplayer restrictions are the only real marks against what is otherwise a fantastic Pokémon adventure. Koei Tecmo and Game Freak have built something special here, and I came away loving Pokémon more than I have in years. More than that, Pokopia feels like the reset button the franchise needed after the struggles of the Switch generation. Here’s hoping Pokémon Winds & Waves can capitalize on this momentum when it lands in 2027.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary Pokémon Pokopia leans in on the franchise's history, effortlessly bringing it into a completely new genre. The story gradually introduces new features to the players without feeling overly guided and the diverse habitats, Pokémon and items mean you can easily sink hundreds of hours into the game and still won't see everything. The multiplayer features perfectly add to the solo gaming experience, the soundtrack evokes nostalgic feelings and at the same time the game runs smoothly and without any problems on Switch 2.

Pokémon Pokopia is a delight. If you're fond of Pokémon for anything besides combat, you'll almost certainly find something to like. It's freeform enough that anyone can pick up and play without feeling confined, but it's structured enough that even those who bounce off crafting games like Minecraft might find something to like. Even if you're a newcomer to the franchise, this may be one of the best ways to introduce yourself to Nintendo's collectible monster behemoth.

There was a ton of hype around Pokopia’s release and I genuinely believe it has lived up to that excitement. It is by far and wide the most unique take on Pokémon that the franchise has ever seen and it’s got the quality behind it to further reinforce that creativity. Between a bunch of rewarding exploration, unique interactions with each Pokémon, and absolutely ludicrous freedom of creation, Pokopia brings Pokémon into the cozy builder style of game with extreme force.

Pokopia is great and it’s going to easily be in my top 10 games of 2026. It’s just a nice experience to see kindness in the face of tragedy which the plot of Pokopia explores. None of the Pokémon fight, they are kind and simply enjoy playing (something that The Pokémon Company has always said in the face of animal abuse allegations but never fully explored in game). I think Pokopia is going to force a lot of games in the cozy genre to reevaluate what they are doing because there’s both freedom and structure for the player and it does an amazing job balancing both. It’s just good vibes.

Inviting is the ideal word to describe Pokopia. It welcomes players into its vast domain, grants them world-altering tools, and encourages them to craft, build, demolish, customize, harvest, and befriend at their leisure.

Pokémon Pokopia is a total time-sink that will destroy any free time you have, think Animal Crossing daily chores, but they don’t ever end! It is a game that encourages you to play how you want, whether you’re digging deep into the ground or building up high. Between the massive Pokédex, the Habitat dex, and the constant supply of daily challenges, the game gets very addictive as you try to find everything. It’s accessible, it’s deep, and finding underground shortcuts or new Pokémon by accident is a proper buzz. If you want a game that you can just lose yourself in, this is the one. Pure quality.

The teams at Game Freak and Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force not only show that the series has plenty more to offer players than Pokémon battles, but they convey it with so much conviction that Pokémon Pokopia has set a new precedent for the level of craftsmanship that I want to see in the Pokémon series going forward.

Pokémon Pokopia masterfully combines elements from several successful cozy games with the Pokémon formula, creating the ultimate Pokémon paradise for trainers who have long dreamed of caring for their favorite creatures. It replaces battles with familiar systems from cozy and exploration games, making Pokémon Pokopia the definitive cozy game for fans of the franchise.

Pokémon Pokopia has raised the bar for Pokémon spinoffs and for the series as a whole. It's a shining example of how versatile Pokémon can be, and it's an amazing way to introduce new players to the franchise.

A wholesome and uplifting game that came at a time when I needed it the most. Pokémon Pokopia takes all of the best elements from Animal Crossing, Minecraft and adds in the one ingredient that always guarantees good sales: Pokémon. This will keep you busy for hours, and it’s very easy to pick up, but almost impossible to put down. It’s one of the easiest games to recommend owning a Nintendo Switch 2 for right now, so don’t sleep on this one!

I love Pokopia more than any other Pokémon game in recent years. It's the kind of adoration that makes me revisit old favorites and wonder how long I've taken the series for granted. By mixing up genre staples and smartly updating familiar tropes, Pokopia makes Pokémon feel new again.

Don’t misunderstand me. I’m absolutely enamored with Pokopia. Its issues aside, this is a giant step forward in the cozy game genre. In fact, even though it’s only March, I’m already predicting this to be a serious contender for Best Family Game at The Game Awards in December. With 30+ hours in-game already, Pokopia has its claws in so deep that I don’t see any reason why it can’t be my next game to hit several hundred hours. I’ve got 5 towns to build or rebuild. I’ve got more secrets to learn and Pokémon to find. Pokopia will be at the tippy top of my list for quite some time.

Pokémon Pokopia is an unexpected spin-off, but also the most fitting one, setting aside battles and the drive to win in favor of the sense of community and friendship that Pokémon creatures have always called for.

Pokémon Pokopia proves that the Pokémon universe is still going strong and that 30 years after the first games, it can adapt to very different experiences beyond just combat. It might not be the kind of game all the fans were expecting, but it turned out to be something better. Now, it doesn't exactly try to reinvent the essence of Pokémon. What makes it special is the world's willingness to be explored.
