Call of the Elder Gods is a first-person adventure that wonderfully captures an otherworldly tone and the sense of mystery of its predecessor, and it nails the emotional core while giving its characters and puzzle design time to shine.

Although it may not reach the heights of other narrative-puzzle contemporaries released since Call of the Sea, Call of the Elder Gods is still an entertaining test for your noggin, wrapped in an adequately engaging Lovecraft-inspired story.

Call of the Elder Gods is a beautiful, haunting and sometimes funny first-person puzzle game. It has a strong focus on its world and characters, with fabulous writing and lovely voice acting. The puzzles are clever, offering a mix of subtle and more grandiose brain scramblers. If you're a fan of cosmic horror or the Lovecraft mythos, Call of the Elder Gods is going to be a game you'll want to dive into immediately. This is one of the most outstanding games of the year so far, and it's not one you're going to want to miss.

Call of the Elder Gods is a very good puzzle adventure game that continues the narrative of the first game and adds some interesting new characters to the mix. At its best it contains some of the most engaging and enjoyable puzzles you'll find, though there are some dips in quality that drag things down a bit. I would recommend the first game over this for newcomers, but if you've already enjoyed that title then you'll get a lot out of this too, just don't expect it to be quite as polished.

The Cthulhu mythos resonates in Call of the Elder Gods, which closely follows the gameplay of its predecessor, Call of the Sea, but offers a more solid structure and an equally intriguing storyline. Some gameplay elements could have been better utilized to give this sequel more personality; nevertheless, fans of the genre and those who enjoyed the controversial first installment of the series are sure to appreciate it.

Call of the Elder Gods is a perfectly worthy sequel to Call of the Sea, in which the authors shifted the focus toward varied and moderately challenging puzzles. The story also turned out to be quite engaging, though for some reason the authors didn't quite polish a number of their ideas, which somewhat mars the overall impression.

Call of the Elder Gods is a really well-designed puzzle game with great characters and a story that grips you the whole way through. It’s a shame that some of the plot developments don’t continue the whole way through the narrative, but it’s still a story well worth following. I can’t wait to see what eldritch ventures this team will send us on next.

Call of the Elder Gods pulls from Lovecraftian mythos to create a pulpy puzzler that works to build off of 2020's Call of the Sea. However, its intense head-scratchers with complex solutions can often clash with the pace of a relatively short adventure.

Beautiful and mysterious, Call of the Elder Gods is a must-play for any fan of puzzle games. It might not be quite as good as its predecessor in terms of story and setting, but it's still absolutely worth your time, as long as you've got your thinking cap on.

Call of the Elder Gods manages to deliver a consistent experience within its premise: a narrative adventure focused on mystery, atmosphere, and clever puzzles. The character writing, the Lovecraftian setting, and the gradual evolution of the puzzles make the campaign constantly engaging, while the art direction and soundtrack contribute to its identity. There are certain visual technical limitations and some frustrating moments caused by demanding puzzles, but the final result is a confident, mature, and very well-constructed sequel, especially for those who enjoy more contemplative and investigative games.

Call of the Elder Gods is a mature and highly rewarding evolution of the foundation laid by Call of the Sea. Out of the Blue Games delivers a vibrant, puzzle-driven adventure that explores Lovecraftian lore through a surprisingly intimate and poetic lens. While the dual-protagonist mechanics feel somewhat underutilized and a few puzzles stumble in execution, the excellent narrative, the satisfying lateral-thinking challenges, and a beautiful handling of themes like grief and the afterlife make it a must-play. A thoroughly captivating journey that smartly closes old chapters while hinting at a promising future.
