NintendoBoy's Reviews

Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark is a good experience that shows that Inti Creates has learned from the mistakes of its previous title and sought to develop its elements and create something that could stand on its own merits. The change to a Metroidvania style and excellent mix of movement abilities makes the game fun and enjoyable to play.

Served like a dessert too small to be enjoyed, NEEDY STREAMER OVERLOAD: Typing of The Net has the size of a demo and the quality of a pointless spin-off.

Instead of reliving the glory of one of the best rail shooters of the '90s, THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2: Remake feels more like an unfinished experiment, desperately trying to balance the new with the old, but failing. If you were hoping for a triumphant return of the series to the Nintendo Switch, you're better off waiting for a new attempt, or revisiting the arcade.

I will be completely direct now, because I want my headaches with this game to go away. If you are looking for an interesting story, this game is not for you, and if you want simulation with fluid and responsive gameplay, this game is not for you either.

Although the challenges are amplified as you pass the stages, introducing new elements, including the aforementioned powers, making the experience in that particular stage unique among the others, the game does not provide much variety, and you will inevitably get tired of the structure very quickly. It's the old problem of seeing everything the game has to offer in the first few moments, and in Gwen's case, it could be in the first 10 or 15 minutes (that is, if you don't die repeatedly in the first level during that period). The ability to purchase CheckPoints is eventually unlocked in the HUB to speed up your process with these levels, but the amount of collectibles needed is too large to even bother purchasing.

3 / 10.0 - DESOLATIUM
Dec 4, 2023

DESOLATIUM is not a very competent package. Even with the ambition of four protagonists, they all lack charisma, and I can barely say that they have any personality, with a not very good-looking experience in general, terrible sound mixing and all the discomfort in its gameplay, even with small moments where the story seems to be going somewhere, the reward is not big enough to deal with the frustration of actually playing the game.

For those who were looking for a good shmup in MACROSS -Shooting Insight-, I suggest spending your hard-earned gold coins on other games of the same style, which are abundantly present in the library of Nintendo's hybrid console. Everything you've tried has failed. I don't recommend the game even to the most inveterate player of the style.

I am honestly speechless on how BAD I★CHU: Chibi Edition is. Were I to call this the definitive way to experience the series, I would think that I have gone crazy, and my friends would also say the same. I don't know who to throw the blame at for this subpar work, but one thing is certain: You're much better off spending your hard-earned money on something else. Trust me.

I don't feel very good about saying this, but Shadow of the Orient fails in fundamental aspects of its execution that make it an experience that leaves a lot to be desired, unfortunately.

Clockwork Aquario could be enriched with more game modes, more gameplay variations, and why not a mode where you can play with friends online, something essential in these times of social distancing? I'm rooting for the game to reach its audience and for a sequel to be made, giving the developers the time and tools to create something grand and worthy of the quality shown here.

Despite a strong art direction, Labyrinth of Zangetsu doesn't offer much beyond that. Putting it alongside other Dungeon Crawling RPGs that have come out recently, it ends up being so archaic and repetitive in its structure that it doesn't stand out, being more worth returning to old adventures or finding other worlds of samurai and ink.

Despite all the improvements over the previous version, Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage leaves a bitter taste in the palate of the shmup fan who is so well served on the Nintendo Switch. All my respect to the developers, but the energy that motivated them to produce a new version of the game could be better spent if it was directed to actually improving the experience of the first version.

If I had to describe Celestia: Chain of Fate in just a few words it would have to be “what a shame”. When I first saw the teaser for this game, I hoped that Agate Games had created something good. But instead, Celestia is simply unable to stand out in any meaningful way. And honestly, I found it difficult to play this for more than 20 minutes.

Ultimately, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition fails to capture the fun and innovation one expects from a modern release. Its limited appeal and lack of robust features like an online multiplayer mode make it a disappointing experience. Nintendo could have made better use of the nostalgia of the NES classics and added more game modes, offering a more complete and diverse final product.

4 / 10.0 - REYNATIS
Oct 20, 2024

REYNATIS has a really promising concept, but the RPG simply leaves a sour taste in my mouth that doesn't justify all of the hype. From the bad performance on the Nintendo Switch to side-quests that don't really add much to the lore, you're better off spending your hard-earned money somewhere else.

Beyond the story, the voice acting – which reunites the original Legacy of Kain team – and the localization for our language are highlights of Ascendance. However, the many problems present ended up overshadowing the franchise's return. While playing, I found myself frustratedly thinking: "I expected more," "the series deserved more." The story ends with a hook for a future sequel. Who knows, maybe they'll get it right in a next game?! Just don't make high bets, because you might lose your wings like Raziel.

Ikkarus and the Prince of Sin combines simulation and visual novel to present a curious fantasy experience, but it unfortunately fails in showing quality in any of its parts. The end result is disfunctional and souless, and the wonky Portuguese translation hinders rather than helps.

FireRed & LeafGreen remain very good games, and I would even say that with a good sale these re-releases might be worthwhile, but there's a feeling of missed opportunity to transform these versions of the games into something even more special.

It doesn't impress in terms of gameplay, visuals, sound, or even concept. Bubble Bobble Sugar Dungeons falls short on a console like the Nintendo Switch, which has the potential to do so.

Summing up everything presented above, I think Headbangers had a great, potentially hilarious idea, but unfortunately it doesn't stand on its own. The mini-game idea is cool, and I went in with high expectations, as it seemed simple, casual, and fun—everything you need after a day's work. However, I received a series of repeated frustrations that very occasionally brought a smile to my face.
