Monster Hunter Wilds is a solid entry within the Monster Hunter series, and a great game for fans and newcomers alike. Long time fans might be annoyed or put off by the on-rails story the game forces you to finish, but once you get to High Rank it is a return to form. Meanwhile this same intro is perfect for easing new players into this universe, and there are some interesting moments that really stand out. Is it the greatest story ever told? Of course not. But it was at least entertaining.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Decline's Drops. It is fun, challenging and has a delightful soundtrack. Its asking price might be a bit high, but honestly for that price you get a well crafted hand drawn passionately made platformer, that will last you easily over 5-7 hours (depending on if you try to 100% it), and the mechanics are deep enough that I could see speed runners enjoy it a lot. Honestly isn't that everything you would want from a good platformer?
I really love RimWorld. It's a game I waited too long to play because of the price tag, and I am not usually that into colony management games in general. However, a friend heavily recommended the game for me, and now I am stuck! There aren't that many games that I can call "forever" games, or games I will come back to constantly like Terraria, but RimWorld, if anything, has enough content to last you for a long while depending on the kind of gamer you are. I strongly recommend you give it a chance if you can!
Alyx is a solid entry within the Half-Life series, and a lot of fun! It has plenty of replayability, and the gameplay is solid. While the annoying puzzles holds it back a bit, it isn't anything that actually ruins the experience, which is a blast from start to finish. It is a game that anyone with a VR headset should really give a chance, but it's important to note that it does have horror elements as well. It isn't a game that everyone can get into because of that, nor is it a game that everyone can get into simply because the fact it is VR exclusive. If you can play it though, and can get past the horror (or have someone to help force you to get past the horror), then you will not regret your time with this one.
Victory Heat Rally is a game that knows exactly who its fanbase is, and it does everything in it's power to deliver a fun and captivating experience. The game is setup in a way that is inviting to newcomers to the arcade racing genre, but also with challenges that will even give long time veterans a run for their money. It's a game all about honing your skills, but it also features modes for all skill levels. It is an inviting yet challenging experience, and that's a fine balance a lot of games fail to achieve... Yet Victory Heat Rally managed to pull it off!
Core Keeper is a surprisingly deep and satisfying game to both new and older players of the genre, and it has something for everyone. You can also play up to 8 players in one world and divide up the tasks. Its not unheard of that you have one dedicated to base building, while others explore and gather materials etc. I have fully enjoyed my time with the game since the start of early access and will come back to it similar to how I always eventually do another playthrough of Terraria.
If you are a fan of Muv-Luv already, then there is no reason you shouldn't read Alternative. It's one of the best stories in the entire series, and the conclusion to what was started all the way back in Extra. Especially with the way Unlimited ended, this is a game you'll for sure want to play. As for everyone else, if a dark twisted psychological horror alien story sounds like something you'd be interested in, then for sure go back and start with Muv-Luv Extra!
If you want a fun pick up and go action game, or something you can sink hundreds of hours in by just trying something new... Dead Cells is the game for you. I'd for sure recommend it, and that's something I never thought I'd say about a roguelike!
Before jumping into Witch on the Holy Night you should understand what kind of story it is. It's not a long drawn out experience filled with tons of action and drama, but instead a quick read that sets up exactly what it needs to. It introduces the characters, sets up the world's lore, brings in the main plot, and throws in a key event that brings our main cast together. From that point on, we get to see the characters learn more about each other and develop their relationships, as we eventually make our way to the climax. It's a more grounded story, and it uses it's setting and atmosphere to help draw it's readers in. The "Holy Night" in the title refers to Christmas, and the snowy backdrop of the game really helps set the mood. Sure, there are some laughs here and there, but overall this is a melancholic tale that features a group of characters you'll want to hold onto.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is a solid JRPG. It's core mechanics are flawless, with a large verity of demons to recruit and add to your party. The game is jammed packed full of lore, and it is loaded with content. It's a game that's actually two games in one, with multiple endings, and a lot of new features that greatly expanded it from it's original version. Pretty much every downside to the original has been corrected here, and it has something to offer RPG fans of all skill levels and interests.
Bat Boy never outstays its welcome or makes anything feel impossible, as long as you’re willing to think outside of the box in relation to your abilities or just hone your skills to the point of being pixel perfect. If you enjoy some of the greatest platformers that we’ve ever been blessed with, that list of stone cold classics that I have mentioned a couple of times in this review, then do yourself a favor and pick up Bat Boy, as it absolutely knocks it out of the park and into a league of its own.
Yakuza 0 is an outstanding game. There's no denying that. While the Japanese crime drama story might not appeal to everyone -- it's something worth giving a chance. If you're willing to do so, then you'll find a game with a rich story, great character development, multiple mysteries to uncover, fun beat em up style gameplay, and loads of extras and mini games to keep you busy. It's a huge game, with a little bit of everything, that will appeal to a wide verity of people.
RE2 is a great game, and one well worth playing. Even if you haven't played a Resident Evil game before, or if the difficulty had scared you off, that shouldn't stop you from playing this one. The game's easy mode is perfect for newcomers, and it's hardcore mode is great for long time series fans. It's a game that was made for everyone, and one you should give a chance if you haven't already. This is Capcom at their finest.
Monster Hunter World is not a game for everyone, and because of that it's really difficult to say what exactly is good or bad about the game. One thing that needs to be made absolutely clear though, is the fact that this is a boss fighting game, and not a story focused one. If you only want a story, then stop now. This game is not for you. If you want to challenge yourself by going against bigger and stronger bosses however, then by all means give this one a shot! On the plus side the game is really newbie friendly, it looks amazing, the combat feels great, and the world really does feel alive. It's a game that finally makes good on it's promise of having a living breathing world like we expected to see with the first Monster Hunter, and it's quality of life improvements greatly improve the experience. It's also packed full of content, and can keep you busy for quite a long time. Really, for what it is, there's not much actually "wrong" with it. However not all long time fans may see it that way.
If you're a fan of sci-fi, drama, comedy, or even a bit of romance - then Steins;Gate is something you shouldn't pass up. El Psy Kangroo.
Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory are fantastic games. I'd argue that as far as Digimon video games go, they're the absolute best we've got thus far (though I guess we'll have to see if Time Stranger takes its throne!) It's one of my favorite games of all time. The playthrough I did before writing this was my 8th one, and it likely won't be my last. There are some issues with story pacing as a result of it making you stop to do side quests, but that's nothing new, as previous games in the Digimon Story issue did the same. It improves upon previous entries in significant ways, having a much more engaging story and being significantly less of a grind. It shows its limitations a bit, the result of being a decade old handheld title, but I don't think that hurts the overall experience much. I'd absolutely suggest anyone who likes Digimon pick this up, and even say that it could be worth a play for someone who just likes monster collectors and JRPGs in general.
FUGA: Melodies of Steel isn't like other RPGs on the market. There is no exploration, no level grinding, and you basically spend the entire game inside of a tank. While it lacks other RPG standards, it more than makes up for this with its solid gameplay, great cast of characters, and interesting story that leaves you wanting more. It has a learning curve players will need to overcome, but once you do, the game becomes extremely addicting and trying out different character combinations is a lot of fun. While the gameplay might not click for everyone, those who enjoy deep strategics turn based battles will find a lot to love here. If this sounds like a game you'd enjoy, then do yourself a favor and check it out as soon as you get the chance.
Mario Kart World is an outstanding new entry in the long running series, and it is a worthy launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. Its unique gameplay prevents it from being a replacement for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and allows for both games to exist on the same console side by side. Anyone who enjoys Mario Kart should for sure give this one a chance, and it is the perfect introduction for new players as well.
Space Marine 2 has been an absolute blast to spend time with. The game is graphically gorgeous, with a staggering amount of detail put into the world. The wild gameplay is like nothing else, truly providing the most fun I've had with a game in years. Everything about Space Marine 2 is the product of a studio who cares about authenticity and crafting a wonderful, action-packed thrill-ride of a game from beginning to end. I'm still pinching myself that this game even exists, and the fact that we're now getting a third one feels like I'm living in a dream.
I really enjoyed my time with Ruffy and the Riverside. I don't think I quit smiling from the time I booted the game up until I finished it. Between the adorable characters, the intriguing story, the incredibly delightful world to explore, and the inventive and fun game mechanics, I think Ruffy is a very special game that absolutely deserves your time and money. I don't think you'll play anything like this again for some time, maybe until Zockrates Labs develops a sequel, which they definitely should. I believe they've maybe created the next indie gaming icon here. I think they should look into doing sequels and spin-offs, getting into RPGs, kart racers (or hay bale racers), maybe even a full-blown skateboarding game: Ruffy Hawk's Pro Hay Bale Riding. In all seriousness, I genuinely hope to see Ruffy become a full-fledged franchise. The game was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it.
