F1 22 is about as close ask you get to an accurate simulation of a real-world sport. It manages to do this while continuing to offer an unprecedented level of customisation of the player experience. A game that others should be looking to emulate in terms of player control.
A massive step up from 2019's A Plague Tale: Innocence in every possible way! Expanding the world and characters without losing its' heart. A true shining light for single-player linear games, focusing on the narrative, something we don't often see anymore.
Freelancer is a fantastic rogue-like in its own right, add that to an already exceptional base game and this is the ultimate version of Hitman. It gives Hitman a new dimension, the risk vs reward makes every decision more meaningful, with another level of replayability. I can't wait to play more as I build towards the perfect run, in this as close as it gets to a perfect game.
Cassette Beasts is a fantastic monster collecting game, one that is clearly inspired by old-school Pokémon but betters it in every aspect. This is the game I wish Pokémon was; for me, it's the new master of the monster-collecting genre.
F1 23 is another step forward for this already incredible franchise with the return of Braking Point and the improved handling this replaces F1 22 as the best video game representation of the sport it is simulating. A must play for any F1 fans and players.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II sets a new bar for performances and presentation. Combined with smart improvements to gameplay, it is arguably the most cinematic, immersive, story-driven experience we’ve ever seen.
Assassin’s Creed Shadow’s ability to seemingly strike a perfect balance between the older titles in the series and its RPG brethren. This is exactly what I want RPG Assassin’s Creed games to be going forward.
Konami has pulled off a miracle here with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, by staying completely true to the original but adding in modern controls, a new camera angle and overhauled visuals. They have been able to breath new life into this classic stealth-action game, making me feel like I was experiencing it all for the first time again. Ultimately standing on the strength of the original and modernising it to provide the best stealth action game you can play in 2025.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is everything you could wish for from an action RPG, with a heavy focus on systems that lean in to support the way you want to play. Not only is Kingdom Come: Deliverance II a brilliant sequel, but it's a genre-defining game that pushes an otherwise stagnant genre forward for the first time in a decade.
Despite a few minor issues, Crimson Desert sets a new benchmark for this style of open-world experience, one that will be extremely difficult for future games to match.
With Forza Horizon 6, Playground Games has done what I thought was impossible and improved upon the near-perfection of the previous two Horizon games.
Ultimately, Alan Wake 2 isn't merely a sequel; it's a multifaceted masterpiece that pushes the boundaries of gaming. The stunning visuals, impeccable audio design, innovative narrative delivery, exceptional performances, and clever use of live-action converge to create an unparalleled gaming experience. It stands as a testament to the limitless potential of video games as an art form.
Ultimately, I was a fan of Death Stranding, but I was sceptical about Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. I just wasn’t sure the original needed a sequel after being such a unique AAA experience in a time where we don’t see much originality anymore. Thankfully, I was wrong, and Kojima Productions has delivered one of the best sequels of all time. While it may not have the complete originality of the first game, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is a better game in every way possible.
At the core, Dispatch tells a tale of humanity, togetherness, and teamwork. It does so with immense quality across the board. From beginning to end, right down to a satisfying conclusion that both leaves space for expansion of these characters and the universe, but also works fantastically as a one-off narrative adventure.
Cairn reaches not only the peak of its genre but the peak of gaming itself. Built on top of the foundation of climbing is one of the most beautiful, transformative experiences I’ve ever had in life, not just gaming.
Football Manager 2023 is another year of evolution for the series, with small but meaningful changes to established proven system. This results in a game that is the best in the series no question, one for die-hards and newcomers to enjoy.
Like a Dragon: Ishin! blends the real-world history with the franchise's signature charm in a way that shouldn't work but just does. Resulting in one of the most memorable Like a Dragon experiences so far, this is a must-play game for long-time fans.
Starfield is by a mile Bethesda Game Studios' best-ever game. It builds on everything they have done before and only improves it. Combat is smoother and more engaging than ever; the sense of discovery across this vast universe is astounding. It just isn’t as perfect as some people had expected and hoped for.
Football Manager 2024 doesn’t change much from last year’s game, but the changes it does make can greatly impact how you choose to play. Ultimately, it gives you the tools to live out your fantasy more than ever, making it a must-play for series fans.
Star Wars Outlaws stands as a testament to Ubisoft Massive’s ability to blend familiar gameplay elements with fresh, innovative ideas. From the engaging blaster combat and seamless space battles to the dynamic narrative shaped by player choices, the game offers a rich and immersive experience that captures the essence of what makes Star Wars so captivating. While it doesn’t break new ground in most aspects, the way it combines tried-and-true mechanics with unique features like Nix and the Syndicate system makes it a standout action-adventure open world. In my opinion a must play game in the year 2024, especially for Star Wars fans.
