Critic Reviews for eFootball Kick-Off!

Ultimately, you could do a lot worse than eFootball if you're looking for an offline, single-player (or co-op) football game. Its World Tour mode is relatively light but it's fun enough, and the game's budget price point matches its ambition. With any luck, this will only be the starting point for eFootball's presence on Switch 2, and Konami will hopefully follow this up with a more fully-featured game, or a straight crossplay-enabled port of the main free-to-play live service title. Judged on its own merits, though, as it stands, only EA Sports FC offers better (albeit less smooth) football gameplay on Switch 2.

It has more modest gameplay by today's standards; there are aspects like the goalkeepers that can be improved (hopefully patches will come), and it lacks content that adds depth, but even with these drawbacks, the nostalgic and simple feel of eFootball Kick-Off is immensely enjoyable. Just play and go, peanut.

Although eFootball Kick Off! isn’t the complete return to the glory days of Pro Evolution Soccer, it’s a strong and confident step in the right direction. On the pitch, it translates the beautiful game in a way that echoes its past, offering a worthy alternative to EA FC.

Konami will now have to find a way to bring back into fashion a brand that absolutely did not deserve to be transformed into something it never was.

As it stands, eFootball Kick-Off! is a great football game wrapped in a thin package. If you're here for modes, licenses, and the full modern football game circus, you may come away wanting a lot more. If you're here for the feel of PES, smooth 60fps football on Switch 2, and fancy building a team without being shaken upside down for your lunch money, then this is absolutely worth a look.

eFootball Kick-Off! is a reminder that football games do not need to be overloaded with features to be enjoyable. When the fundamentals are strong and the design is focused, the result can be just as compelling as any big‑budget alternative. With this release, Konami has successfully tapped into its roots, giving Switch 2 players a superb reason to hit the pitch. It is a confident and enjoyable revival of Konami’s classic football philosophy, built around tight controls, smooth animation, and a generous range of modes that suit both newcomers and long‑time fans. The limited licences and occasional commentary hiccups do little to diminish the strength of the on‑pitch action, and the absence of pay-to-win microtransactions makes the overall package even more appealing. This is a focused and highly entertaining football game that understands exactly what it wants to be and delivers it with clarity.

I know eFootball™ Kick-Off! won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. But for football addicts like me, who’ve been desperately missing the classic PES/Winning Eleven days, its gameplay and even the legends featured in World Tour mode are enough to spark a little hope that the magic might still be there somewhere.

eFootball Kick-Off! is exactly what many of us have been waiting for in a soccer game: uncomplicated fun. It has the good and the bad of the latest PES/eFootball games, but without the intrusive pop-ups, card packs, and all that unnecessary paraphernalia.
